First game of 2008 and its Derby Day . The pitch looked in excellent condition considering the rainfall we have had recently and despite the early kick off the game attracted quite a crowd . Both teams were missing vital players and the match promised to be a very tactical affair with the Clarets currently top of the UNOFFICIAL LEAGUE and the Whites second there was everything to play for .
The game started at a very fast pace , the ball being moved around superbly by both teams . Both teams creating but being stopped by defiant midfield and defenders . Mid Half the Clarets broke away and looked dangerous with four players facing two White defenders but the defenders did well and broke up the attack setting the whites immediately on the attack and a hard low shot through the Clarets keepers legs made the score 1-0 to the Whites . The game continued back and forth not letting the pace drop and the halftime whistle came with applause from the supporters on an excellent half of mini soccer football .
Second half and the Clarets changed to a more attacking formation and soon looked more comfortable , creating chances and passing well . The whites sat deep and defended very well . The breakthrough came when the Clarets put together a nice passing move finishing with Callum Blanks in front of goal who slotted away nicely to equal the scores . The rest of the match again was a great example of mini soccer with neither team wanting to settle for the draw , the Clarets probably created the clearer chances but this week couldnt convert any of them , the Whites always looked dangerous on the break and it was in this manner that the game was won , a strong Whites attack ended with the ball crossed into the Clarets box but no whites forward to make use of it , but some confusion in defence gifted a chance to an advancing whites forward who made no mistake in slotting home the the applause of the travelling supporters . With less than a minute to go the Clarets had no chance to reply and in so suffered their first league defeat in a season and a half . Congratulations to all involved in a wonderful spectacle and especially the whites on a great performance and win .
Man of the match Benjamin Davidson , great passing , strength and will power , keep it up
