A couple of events happened yesterday and both well attended. The first was the meet and greet with the first Team. It was a shame that there was a lack of communication over the event, although we learned that this was down to the main club. Thank you to all of you for your patience and co-operation. We managed to get some photos done with some of the First Team, but on top of that, some of us managed to get some Team photos out on the pitch. These will soon be available on the Website.
The Clarets versus parents match this evening was played out in poor conditions, with the sun shining all day, but deciding to disappear and rain arrived. However, it didn’t seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the two teams or the mass of spectators, who were equipped with umbrellas and rain gear.
The Clarets won the toss and chose to kick off, defending the Clubhouse End. An even start to the half, with some good possession enjoyed by both teams. The young legs of the boys worked very hard and used the wide open spaces, playing lovely football to feet.
The last week of training is upon us this week and the season culminates with the now traditional boys v parents match. It promises to be a fun spectacle, with hopefully, plenty of parents giving the spectators a good laugh. Let’s see the boys use their heads, make the ball do the work and give their mums and dads a good run around! I will be as fair as ever with my refereeing, I'm sure.
The management team aim to arrive nice and early to get the pitch marked out and goals set up, so any early arrivals will be welcome to help.
A wet and windy Chelmer Park bore witness to our second fun competition. This time around, it was an individual event, battled out over 4 rounds. Round 1 was called Burn Rubber and this was a mini series of sprint races. Isaac won race 1, 2nd was Ben T, 3rd was Tom C. Isaac won race 2, Marley 2nd, Harrison 3rd. Last race was won by Marley, with Isaac narrowly pipped into 2nd place, with Tom C 3rd. Overall sprint champion was Isaac, who recieved a mini box of Roses.
A lot has already been written about the tournament at the Stadium, so very briefly, thank you to EVERYONE who volunteered to help out. The club needs volunteers for all these kind of events and you didn't let us down. Well done to the boys for their best performance in a tournament. I really enjoyed refereeing the games in the morning, depite the mock abuse I received from the supporters of the Whites. All in good fun and there was one point in particular when I gave a free kick against them in their opponent's half, from which they almost imeediately scored when the ball came to them!
It looked like we were set fair for another hot and sunny day for another Chelmsford City tournament, but after looking at the forecast, I'm not so sure. We were so lucky with the impromptu tournament that Steve and Stacey organised when the Stadium tournament had to be postponed was played out in glorious sunshine. A little too hot for us all to be running around in, but this time around, we should all get some breaks between matches and maybe a little cooler?
